Volunteer

Utah Health & Human Rights' volunteer program is an integral part of our mission. Through the help of dedicated volunteers, we are able to help clients become self-sufficient and rebuild their lives in Utah. There are many ways you can help out.

General Volunteer Opportunities

  • Driving: Transporting clients to and from our office for appointments, groups and clinics
  • Childcare: Watching children at our office while their parents are in sessions and groups
  • Office Work: Auditing client files, cleaning the office, sorting in-kind donations, working at the front desk and helping with other organizational tasks
  • Mentoring: Working with clients to achieve specific goals, which may mean helping them practice English, navigate public transportation, access the library, become financially literate, or meet a range of other needs identified by clients and our staff

Professional Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Interpreters: Interpreting for sessions and assisting with document translation (Arabic, Swahili, Kinyarwanda and other languages)
  • Massage Therapists: Providing massages for clients to assist with pain, stress and anxiety
  • CNA/Medical Assistants: Assisting psychiatrists with check-ins at our biweekly psychiatry clinic
  • Pharmacist: Helping our clients with medications and prescriptions
  • LCSW: Providing one-on-one and/or group therapy sessions to clients
  • Dental: Providing pro bono or discounted dental services
  • Contact us if you have a different professional specialty that may benefit UHHR's clients — we'd love to hear your ideas

Donations

  • Hygiene supplies: We're always in need of a number of hygiene items to give to clients in need. These include shampoo, conditioner, lotion, deodorant, soap, diapers, baby wipes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, razors and shaving cream.
  • Cleaning supplies: Having cleaning supplies available helps our clients, who usually live at or below the poverty line. We're always in need of liquid laundry detergent, dish soap, hand soap, multi-purpose wipes or sprays, paper towels, sponges and dish towels.
  • Wish list: When clients come to us with specific needs — like a new mattress or a wheelchair — we send an email out to donors who've signed up for our wish list.
